These words strike fear into the hearts of most professional driving instructors. Generally the prospective Son or Daughter that is being ushered into your space with that amazing reference will be…..lacking to say the least.
Now, we have a decision to make. Do we burst the students and / or parents bubbles concerning the driving prowess of their child or do we simply follow a direction wherein we teach the kid how to park.
The first thing to establish on the lesson will be “When is your test” upon finding out it’s tomorrow at 0920, your ability to have a lot of input into the student will be limited. If there is a period of time, have a frank discussion with the student and also (preferably) the parents upon return. Be honest and give a professional opinion.
Irrespective, if it is safe – and achievable – do a lot of parks with the student. You will have two ticks in your book then. The first being that you have provided for the parents in accordance with their request. If the student does the test and doesn’t pass, hopefully there will be no errors in the manoeuvres section. One gold crown for you.
Secondly, If there is a period before the test and the parents can see that the skills that you worked on are being done, well, then you have a much greater chance of attracting the client to more lessons.
Use these jobs as an opportunity to become part of the education process for the student concerned
